Welcome! We are excited about your child being part of our Physical Education program. Participation in Physical Education is required because of the important lifelong skills your child will gain such as cooperative work, problem solving, team sports, team-building, self-confidence, and individual physical fitness. West End Physical Education Department uses the SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids) curriculum. The philosophy of this curriculum encourages each student to have individual equipment and promotes moderate to vigorous activity during class.

Assessment:
Using the SPARK curriculum assessments, students will be given formative and summative assessments aligned to the Tennessee State Standards and MYP Criterion.

Items needed every day for Physical Education:
- Dressing out every day is expected. All attire is required to meet school appropriateness rules. A complete change of clothing includes the following: a t-shirt or sweatshirt, shorts, sweatpants ,yoga pants, socks, and tennis shoes. Bring a separate set of clothing; please do not wear them under school clothes. Please be prepared for class that may be held outdoors in fall, winter, and spring. We have West End Middle attire in the school bookstore as an optional purchase.
- No jewelry is to be worn during class since it can pose a safety hazard.
- Athletic shoes that tie up- no shoes with a heel, no crocs, no boots (Tennis shoes should be tied before class and remain tied during the class period)
- Deodorant please! No sprays/aerosols
- Combination Lock
Physical Education Rules:
- Play Safe
- Play Fair
- Play Hard
- Let Go & Move on
- Warning (verbal or non-verbal)
- Reflection Wall
- Call parent
Physical Education Class Expectations:
- Students will show sportsmanship to classmates and adults during Physical Education
- Students will participate and work on having a positive attitude during Physical Education
- Students will follow procedure for Physical Education
- Students will follow school rules and Physical Education Rules
